Prof. Julius Samson Meme

He was born on 12 September 1945 in Meru County. He went to Meru School before joining the highly reputed Alliance High School to finish his two years of high school. Afterwards he acquired his MB ChB M.Med (Paed) from the University of Nairobi and F.A.A.P, the American Academy of Paediatrics.
As an undergraduate, he was remarkable having being the best final year student in faculty of medicine 1971/1972 and was feted with many awards including the Kenya Shell Prize. Meme also lectured in the University of Nairobi and McGill University, Canada.
Meme spent many years in civil service; he’s notably remembered as a former director of Kenyatta National Hospital, the largest National Referral and Teaching hospital in the country. Other positions he has dutifully served include; the Director of Medical Service, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, board chairperson of Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
Meme has written numerous publications on paediatrics and the acclaimed Hospital Autonomy, which can be found in Nairobi Journal of Medicine, East Africa Medical Journal and other international journals. 
He also had interest in politics and rivaled the influential Kiraitu Murungi in the 2007 general election for the South Imenti seat but was not able to gain the seat.
Meme died on Wednesday, March 28 2012 at Nairobi Hospital after long illness.
