Nestle to boost Coffee Farming in Kenya

Food multinational Nestlé S.A. has launched a multi-million shilling project, dubbed Nestlé Nescafe Project aimed at improving the quality of coffee by offering technical support to Kenyan farmers in order to increase yields and ultimately the quality of their product.
In the initial phase of the Nescafe Plan, Sh35 million has been invested and the firm is planning to increase the amount of coffee it buys from farmers to about 180,000 tonnes within the next five years.
Nine farmers’ cooperative societies, with 27 wet mills and over 26,000 farming households are in line to benefit from the project as well as 26,000 small-scale coffee farmers in the country.
